HOW DARE YOU!

As I read this I was very moved. In the current time women are being doubted, labeled and devalued - yet again. I think it is important to realize that women are to be heard, believed and seen as something other than an object. Thank you April Graham for writing this. It speaks to the heart.

I suppose you could say I'm a stern woman, that's the label we get when we don't bend for others & demand our needs be met, how selfish of her to have self respect! I suppose you could say I'm a stubborn woman, that's the label we get when we won't passively agree to disagree on the things we are passionate about, oh how dare she stand her ground! I suppose you could say I'm a cruel woman, that's the label we get when we don't cater our existence to make them feel more comfortable in their usually oppressive ways, the words coming out of your mouth offend me! I suppose you could say I'm an selfish woman, that's the label we get when we put our needs first & draw firm boundaries of how much energy we choose to give, how dare you not drain self fully to elevate me & my cause! I suppose you could say I'm an egotistical woman, that's the label we get when we have a strong belief in self & a hustle to match it while refusing to let others prosper off of our hard work, how dare you not let me ride your coattails! I suppose you could say I'm a vicious woman, that's the label we get when we are willing to fight for what we need & unwilling to feel bad about cutting a motherfucker we find reaching into our purse, how dare she not be willing to share! I suppose you could say I'm an idiotic woman, that's the label we get when we aren't afraid to critically think, when we find ways to learn that don't conform to societies imposed standards meant to leach us of self & finances, how dare she think for herself! I suppose you could say I'm a vulgar woman, that's the label we get when we talk of things that society says should go unheard & I guaranfuckintee our subject matter often upsets more than the profanity, how dare she ask us to think about things that have already been decided for us! So all in all I suppose you could say I am proud to have been called a stern, stubborn, cruel, selfish, egotistical, vicious, idiotic & vulgar woman in this past week alone because I'm pretty sure when you add all these words together what they are really saying is... How dare you be a strong woman!
