A New Beginning' by Miriam Bouwens
The New Year holds many exciting things here at the Herstory desk. Thanks to the talent, generosity, love and kindness of two amazing friends, this blog and my other social media will have a whole new look. Previously I acknowledged the site needed work, and it did! I just lacked the skills to make changes. However, two tireless earth angels or “transformers” have been working on it, and the new site will have its debut early in January. It has been an extreme labor of love for them, and I am so very grateful and super excited. Expect reveals soon.
These earth angels I mention have had me thinking for a while now about love, kindness, and joy. It is the season, but it is their “season” all year round. What fantastic humans they are, and wouldn’t it be just divine if we could each show a little more kindness, a little more love, a little more generosity during this new year? I am ever inspired by people like my earth angels, who live this every day. I am so blessed that they are in my life!
Is your heart tired from wandering? Love, joy and kindness are critical for our well-being; they enable the light within to shine. In a world that is in such turmoil, I believe they are even more important than ever. Each of them has the power to really transform lives. They help to create a more compassionate world and are powerful antidotes to negativity. One thing I’ve learned well is that we affect one another, and the way we treat others matters.
Each of these qualities has a ripple effect. Each of us has opportunities in our lives to be kind. In a world where cruelty and chaos abound, kindness can radiate in two directions: outward and inward. We never know how a small act of kindness can help not only ourselves but others. The more kindness we show, the more the world around us will become a more beautiful place. There is so much negativity and darkness in our world, but our kindness can be a light. It’s free! Let’s spread that stuff all around.
Follow the Light Within
Each morning offers us an opportunity to start over,
a quiet promise arriving with the first light of dawn.
The journey ahead, unmapped, uncertain,
shimmering with possibility,
awaits us.
Dreams once distant stir again
in the early hush,
as if the dawn is whispering them
back into breath,
back into being.
Courage rises with the sun,
not loud, not forceful,
but steady,
asking us to rise with it,
to lean toward the horizon
of our ever-evolving selves.
Whatever the day may bring,
challenge, wonder,
or something still unnamed,
morning teaches us to meet it with open hearts,
to trust that even the smallest,
most tentative step is an act of faith,
in moving toward that which beckons us.
For every sunrise is invitation,
every dawn a reminder
that the world expands
when we dare to follow
the light within.
