A Time Out!

This morning rather than social media I checked out the Smithsonian Magazine and decided that I am getting lost in the world of that Magazine this week! In the world today where current language does not even begin to describe the horror and tragedies that are occurring, we need a new lexicon. That nastiness has steeped us all for weeks now, and it is unhealthy. I will do due diligence, make calls, and protest this week, but I will be in the pages of the Smithsonian, not letting the daily ugliness suck me in.

We care, but sometimes that caring can be to our detriment. I don’t suggest that we all stop caring or desensitize; quite the contrary, but what I suggest is a health break, a timeout, a little self-nurturing and self-care. You can’t pour out of an empty cup.

Some of the things I will explore through this fantastic magazine: A Man Noticed a Strange Shape on Satellite Images. It Turned Out to Be a 138-Year-Old Shipwreck in Lake Michigan,  Ancient Statues Emerge From the Waters Off Egypt’s Coast, Where They’d Been Hiding for Thousands of Years, Archaeologists Are Investigating an Ancient Mosaic Depicting Sandals That Look Strangely Like Modern Flip-Flops, Experts Preserve a 249-Year-Old Gunboat That Sank During the American Revolution, This 102-Year-Old Man Just Became the Oldest Person on Record to Summit Japan’s Mount Fuji, A Neolithic Cow’s Tooth Helps Point to the Mysterious Origins of Stonehenge’s Iconic Stones, and a few other captivating pieces. I think my physical and mental heal will fare much better focusing on these amazing things rather than in the daily disturbing diatribe that presents itself repeatedly. Try it!

Also, I will focus on kindness and positivity. Hold loved ones and members of my tribe closer. Be the best human I can be. Find beauty in nature, in smiles, in the kindness of others; it still exists.

Wishing you a week of peace, kindness, love and calm. Find the beautiful moments, the magic. Focus on it; make it happen! Blessings.

You ruin your life by desensitizing yourself.

We are all afraid to say too much, to feel too deeply, to let people know what they mean to us.

Caring is not synonymous with crazy.

Expressing to someone how special they are to you will make you vulnerable.

There is no denying that. However, that is nothing to be ashamed of.

There is something breathtakingly beautiful in the moments of smaller magic that occur when you strip down and are honest with those who are important to you.

Let that girl know that she inspires you.

Tell your mother you love her in front of your friends.

Express, express, express.

Open yourself up, do not harden yourself to the world, and be bold in who, and how you love.

There is courage in that.
